Senior Systems Engineers work with knowledge of Network Infrastructure automation and are responsible for the entire development and support process for that specialism. You’re accountable for delivering quality solutions for colleagues and customers alike, impacting time, effort and cost savings while re‑defining normal operations.

Job Summary: Senior Systems Engineers at Tesco implement network solutions, drive automation, and maintain and evolve infrastructure to support rapidly changing business needs.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver network solutions using existing network infrastructure, evolving best practice as new technologies are introduced.
- Resolve incidents and problems within your technical domain, ensuring minimal disruption.
- Contribute to the Technology Roadmap for Tesco Network Services.
- Evaluate new tools and techniques, assessing their value and impact.
- Lead group design discussions on your area of expertise and present with authority to various audiences.
- Collaborate with other technical teams to understand requirements and enable seamless infrastructure consumption.
- Keep technical skills current, tracking emerging technologies that could benefit the team and broader Tesco.
- Introduce automation into all aspects of day‑to‑day work.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of experience designing and deploying solutions for large, complex global organisations.
- Engineering or Science graduate or Diploma (BEng/BSci).
- Analytical, structured approach to design, process and advanced troubleshooting.
- Experience working with Architecture to produce and maintain high quality HLD/LLD and documentation.
- Well‑organised self‑starter who takes personal ownership and accountability across the full project life cycle.
- Strong communication skills, able to present designs, strategies and concepts clearly.
Required Technology Skills
- Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with F5 platforms (LTM, GTM, BigIQ, including Viprion, Velos, iSeries, rSeries).
- Firewall technologies, especially Palo Alto.
- Proficient scripting in Python, Unix/Linux shell or alternatives such as PowerShell.
- IPAM and DNS – BlueCat or Infoblox platforms.
- Layer 2/3 networking, including dynamic routing protocols.
Solid Understanding of
- API configuration – skilled in application setup, JSON/YAML, declarative and imperative APIs.
- Splunk for troubleshooting and analysis.
- Packet capture and debugging tools such as Wireshark.
Desirable Technical Skills
- Kubernetes networking and container technologies.
- Large‑scale DDoS mitigation and WAF solutions.
- Automation and configuration management – experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Terraform.
- Certificate management – CSR generation and lifecycle management.
- Web protocols – deep knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS, redirects, response codes, headers, and F5 iRules/policies.
- Network management tools such as Panorama, Arista CVP, SNMP, and alerting solutions.
- Security best practices – understanding of NIST, CIS, ISO27000 frameworks.
Educational Qualifications
Engineering / Science Graduate or Diploma.
Years of Experience
10+ years.
