Our Technology Summer Placement offers a unique opportunity to explore how digital solutions and IT services support and transform a regulated FTSE 100 business. You’ll gain insight into how Severn Trent designs, delivers, and integrates technology across its operations to drive innovation, efficiency, and customer service.

The programme comprises working across one of our key teams in Architecture, Software Development, Service Management, or Digital Delivery. This placement is designed to give you a real understanding of how technology underpins business operations and enables strategic change.

THINGS YOU MIGHT LEARN
  • Support the development and delivery of technology standards and solutions across finance, data, and risk management.
  • Understand the cyber security landscape and how it influences system design and architecture.
  • Use service management tools to resolve incidents and requests and apply techniques to manage change.
  • Triage and problem-solve technology challenges, incidents, and service issues.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for process improvements across digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with business units to develop IT strategies and improve current implementations.
  • Engage in agile project work, including software development, stakeholder communication, and data analysis.
  • Gain exposure to how technology supports customer outcomes and community engagement.
HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK?

During the 8-week or 12-week placement you will be based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, placing you right at the heart of our operations, you will be working day to day with industry professionals, taking lead on projects and real-life work.

Throughout your time with us, you’ll also benefit from a range of opportunities designed to help you explore your career ambitions, support your development, and ensure you get the most out of your placement:

Depending on your year of study, the programme could lead to a fast-track opportunity into another internship programme or even our graduate scheme—helping you take the next step in your career with Severn Trent.

ABOUT THE PLACEMENT

Location: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ

Programme Duration: 8 or 12 weeks

ENTRY CRITERIA
  • Preferred individuals with an analytical mindset and a passion for Technology, including areas such as Digital Innovation, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Software Development, and Emerging Technologies.
  • Studying subjects like Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity or other relevant degrees.

You must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
