We are seeking a specialist doctor with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.

This is a fixed term posts based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidates will help managed the respiratory ward and be involved with the respiratory support unit in managing level 2 respiratory patients. There will be commitment to general respiratory out-patient clinics and participation in the medical on call.

The post-holder will also be involved in the respiratory in-reach service (acute chest team) providing specialty input to patient on non-respiratory ward especially in the acute areas and holding a HOT clinic once a week.

Main duties of the job
  • The appointee will be responsible for the care of inpatients and outpatients in the Respiratory Department and will be expected to establish and maintain the highest clinical standards in managing these patients.
  • Participation in the General Internal Medicine responsibilities of the Respiratory Team including the general medical on call
  • Support of the unit’s goal of delivering highly effective care approaches
  • The teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students and junior staff
  • To participate in both department and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in CME throughout.
  • To support development and delivery of sub-specialist respiratory services.

Person specification
Qualifications / Training
  • Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice
  • College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Evidence of being up to date and fit to practice safely, and aware of own training needs
  • Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment
  • Postgraduate academic degree
Previous Experience
  • Shall have completed a minimum of 12 years medical work (either in continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of 6 years should have been in a relevant Specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years’ experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
  • Demonstrate an interest in, commitment to and have Broad range of experience in Respiratory Medicine in particular: o Experience in acute medicine emergencies and sleep medicine
  • Fully competent with Bronchoscopy
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Experience and expertise in managing critically ill patients within a medical ICU and HDU environment
Skills
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
