Role involves strategic technology direction across multiple domains

Responsibilities include high and low-level design, governance, and compliance

Location is UK-based, within commutable distance to Heathrow

These roles are instrumental in three core areas: defining strategic technology direction across operational domains in collaboration with domain architects, acting as the technical design authority for project delivery, and maintaining strong governance and architectural standards. Covering a wide landscape—including Baggage, Airfield, Engineering, Rail Systems, and Passenger Systems—this role demands both strategic foresight and hands‑on technical oversight. You’ll work at the intersection of infrastructure, operations, and innovation, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with Heathrow’s long‑term goals.

Your role will involve
  • Accountable for the developing, designing and documenting solutions and solution options (high level design / low level design and functional and non-functional)
  • Creation of designs and documents aligned with the overall strategic objectives and technical guidance set out by the Technology Department
  • Facilitate design decisions across development, configuration, integration, infrastructure, security, licensing, availability, compliant, storage, and change management
  • Work closely with the Domain architect to ensure alignment to Heathrow standards and to Domain strategy
  • Understand business requirements and scope changes and highlight any impact on delivery teams or technical solution
  • To take part in the technology Governance processes providing specialist knowledge and assurance that Project designs are fit for purpose and comply to HAL Standards and guideline
  • Ensure technical knowledge and integrity of Products and Solutions is transitioned into the BAU/Support organisation
These skills are essential
  • Experience of development of large scale, pragmatic, business centric solutions to solve critical business challenges complying with Architectural standards
  • Working in a collegiate framework with colleagues in data, security and integration disciplines to create fully rounded solutions
  • Experience of building, maintaining, and influencing relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Previous experience of defining architectural direction and harnessing innovation for business benefit

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Experience as design authority for a project portfolio or major programme
  • Previous experience of managing suppliers and partners, offshore and onshore teams
  • TOGAF certification

Working Location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow . Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
