Basic DBS clearance required (or willingness to obtain one)

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Manager to support the day-to‑day operation of a large and well‑established visitor destination and country park.

The site attracts significant visitor numbers, welcoming over 240,000 visits in 2024–25, with continued growth year on year. It includes a Grade II* listed 400‑year‑old water mill, retail shop, tenanted café, office spaces, learning hub, play and visitor facilities, all set within a 240‑acre country park and nature reserve incorporating woodland, SSSI‑designated land, waterways and a large reservoir.

The role

The Site Manager will be responsible for the daily operational management of the site, ensuring it is safe, welcoming and well‑maintained for visitors, tenants and staff. This includes opening and closing buildings, carrying out site checks, maintaining health and safety documentation, and reporting and managing repairs and maintenance in collaboration with internal facilities and asset teams.

The role will manage a small on‑site team, providing day‑to‑day leadership and support, and will work closely with colleagues including volunteer services, project staff and the café operator. Responsibilities will also include retail and income management in conjunction with a commercial team, liaison with tenants and external partners, and supporting service delivery, which may include occasional weekend working.

What we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced manager with a background in visitor attractions, heritage sites, museums, country parks or other visitor‑focused environments. Knowledge of the heritage sector and listed building constraints would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of health and safety legislation, strong people management skills, and a commitment to delivering a high‑quality visitor experience. You will need to be adaptable, organised and confident in dealing with day‑to‑day operational challenges, including unexpected issues on site.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, tenants, volunteers, contractors and visitors. Commercial awareness would be beneficial to support on‑site retail operations, alongside accurate handling of data and reporting.

This is a hands‑on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys managing busy, complex sites and working as part of a wider service team.
