£20,000 - £23,000 depending on experience and knowledge

It is with great excitement that the charity is now in the position to open our Thrift shop FULL TIME. With this in mind, we are searching for the perfect person to oversee and manage this store.

Purpose of the Role

To lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the charity shop, ensuring it is a welcoming, profitable, and mission-aligned space that reflects the values of the Charity. The shop manager will oversee volunteers, stock, and customer service, creating a safe and dignifying environment for all.

Changing Lives is a faith-based charity, committed to bringing healing, restoration and hope for the future to individuals who have experienced life-affecting trauma.

Rooted in Christian values of compassion, dignity, and justice, our work has two arms, a therapeutic arm and a vibrant commercial operation, which helps fund the therapeutic arm.

The therapeutic arm spans counselling, advocacy, and community support for survivors of addiction, homelessness, mental health issues and offending behaviour.

The Charity provides both residential and non-residential care. Andrew House Clevedon is our residential facility which operates alongside a non-residential programme Volunteer Plus, providing community support, through counselling and long-term care.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Support

  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers with compassion and clarity.
  • Foster an inclusive culture where every team member feels valued.
  • Provide regular feedback and support, ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing are prioritised.

Shop Operations

  • Manage daily opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and till reconciliation.
  • Ensure the shop is clean, safe, and visually appealing, with well-organised stock.
  • Monitor and report on sales performance, stock levels, gift aid and donation trends.
  • Offer warm, respectful service to all customers, reflecting the charity’s values.
  • Handle queries, complaints, and vulnerable interactions with emotional intelligence.
  • Promote the charity’s wider mission through in-shop materials and conversations.
  • Oversee sorting, pricing, and display of donated goods in line with charity guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, trading standards, and gift aid procedures.
  • Coordinate with other shop/ warehouse for stock rotation and seasonal campaigns.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of income, expenses, volunteer hours, and incidents.
  • Uphold safeguarding, GDPR, and financial policies with integrity.
  • Liaise with the Business Manger as required for audits, updates, or strategic input.
Person Specification
  • Str ong leadership and team management skills to motivate and support volunteers and staff.
  • Excellent organisational abilities to manage stock, donations, and shop layout efficiently.
  • Financial literacy for cash handling, budgeting, and sales monitoring.
  • Compassionate communication and customer service skills, especially for vulnerable customers and donors.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety regulations to maintain a safe environment.
  • Problem-solving skills to handle daily challenges and volunteer coordination.
  • Ability to promote the charity’s mission and values through shop activities and customer engagement.
  • Background knowledge of core stock items to support pricing, etc.
  • A strong knowledge of antiques and collectable items.
  • Physically fit to support the handling and movement of stock
