A leading construction equipment firm is looking for a Service Engineer to join their new depot in Northern Scotland. You will be responsible for servicing and repairing various types of construction equipment both in the workshop and on customer sites. The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications and experience in the plant or heavy vehicle sectors, a full driving license, and strong mechanical and hydraulic skills. The position requires travel within the Northern Scotland area, with potential for overtime and weekend work.

Job Title: Service Engineer Hours: 39 Hours (8am - 4:30pm) (Inc Weekend Rotas) Salary: From £19 per hour (DOE) Territory: Northern Scotland

HRGO is excited to be recruiting for a longstanding client in the Construction Equipment industry who is expanding into the Blairgowrie region with a new Depot opening Spring 2026. As part of the expansion, we are recruiting for a Service Engineer to assist with repairs and maintenance of Plant Machinery at customer sites. This is largely a field based role, sharing Engineering work with other Engineers in the Northern Scotland territory. The ideal candidate will come from the Plant / Industrial Machinery / Construction / Agri industry.

Role Summary

Responsible for servicing, diagnosing and repairing construction equipment both in the depot workshop and on customer sites, ensuring high levels of equipment uptime, safety and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities of Service Engineer
  • Carry out planned maintenance, inspections and repairs on a range of construction equipment (e.g. excavators, telehandlers, dumpers, rollers) in the depot and on customer sites.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using appropriate tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical documentation.
  • Attend field service calls for breakdowns and urgent repairs, providing efficient on-site fixes where safe and practical.
  • Complete accurate job cards, service reports and timesheets; record parts used and labour in the service system.
  • Communicate clearly with customers on work required, options, timescales and any safety concerns.
  • Liaise with the parts department to identify, order and manage parts required for jobs.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with manufacturer standards and company health & safety procedures.
  • Maintain company tools, service vehicle (if allocated) and workshop equipment in a clean, safe, serviceable condition.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Time-served apprenticeship and/or recognised qualification (e.g. NVQ / City & Guilds) in Plant, Heavy Vehicle, Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience servicing and repairing construction equipment, plant, heavy vehicles or similar machinery.
  • Strong mechanical and hydraulic skills; basic electrical fault‑finding capability.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites within Northern Scotland.
  • Able to read and interpret technical manuals, service bulletins and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience (Nice to Have)
  • Experience with modern diagnostics, telematics or electronic control systems (CANbus, engine management, etc.).
  • OEM or manufacturer training on specific brands of construction equipment.
  • Basic welding/fabrication skills.
  • Previous experience in a mixed depot/field service role.

  • Strong awareness of safety and safe systems of work.
  • Customer‑focused approach with good communication skills on‑site and over the phone.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team in the workshop.
  • Good organisation and time management, able to prioritise multiple jobs.
  • IT literate enough to use service/job management systems and email.
Working Conditions & Travel
  • Split between depot‑based work and field service
  • Regular travel within Northern Scotland, occasional overtime, weekend work or call‑outs may be required.
  • Work in workshops, yards and active construction sites, indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
  • Salary: Ranging from £19 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Overtime paid at 1.5x Rate.
