Senior Transport Planner – Principal Transport Planner

We are seeking a full-time Principal Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner for our Transport North team, based in either Newcastle or Leeds, with hybrid working that allows a mix of in‑office and home‑working.

We offer a challenging and rewarding career working for a leading consultancy with a strong presence in the North. You will join a well‑established team delivering a wide variety of interesting projects for clients in the private and public sectors.

Our clients typically include housing and commercial developers, local authorities, highway authorities, architects, town‑planners and other professionals.

Responsibilities

Your work will primarily involve development‑related transport planning, including the preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments and other development‑related transport reports. You will help mentor and support junior staff, stay up‑to‑date with current practices and guidelines, undertake site visits, attend meetings, and assist with client liaison such as attending meetings and preparing fee proposals. Full support will be provided on a day‑to‑day basis by an experienced transport planning professional.

Qualifications
  • Experience producing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans.
  • Experience analysing, collating and interpreting data.
  • Knowledge of highway design principles relevant to site access design.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and GIS software.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with software packages such as TRICS, TEMPro Junctions, LinSIG and Transyt.
  • Previous UK work experience.
  • Understanding of the UK planning process and how your work fits into it.
  • Some experience of developing and maintaining client relationships would be advantageous.

  • Ability to produce clear, precise and coherent analysis, reports and drawings.

  • Knowledge of the application of transport modelling software.
Preferred Qualifications

Degree or Masters in a relevant subject (e.g. transport planning, civil engineering, geography). Professional accreditation, such as CIHT, CILT, TPP, or ICE.
