About the Role

The City is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Rates & Accounts team, to provide day‑to‑day supervision, guidance and support for the Rates Team and assist the Coordinator Rates & Accounts in the operational, administrative and strategic initiatives of the Rates Unit.

The role communicates with a range of customers and stakeholders including government departments and agencies, the business community, members of the public and City leaders and employees.

A challenging aspect of the role relates to overseeing the day‑to‑day operation of the rates area, ensuring that the team provides accurate and consistent customer service and outcomes within a dynamic environment that includes prescribed timeframes.

About You

As a collaborative member of the Rates & Accounts team, the position supports the City’s rates services, including supervision of a team, to a high quality standard that meets customer needs, corporate standards and legislative requirements with prescribed time limits.

The successful appointee must be adaptable and have had relevant experience in a similar role. They must also thrive working in a very busy and change driven organisation.

As such, applicants must be able to demonstrate:
  • Relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995, Rates and Charges (Rebates and Deferments) Act 1992 and Local Government rating principles and practices.
  • Experience in financial management processes and systems.
  • Intermediate computing, numeracy, literacy and keyboard/data entry skills.
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Skilled in supervising the work of others, providing technical assistance and motivating staff.
  • Intermediate communication, problem solving, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Foundation research and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace, including risk assessment and control implementation.
