Senior Quantity Surveyor

About The Role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17 km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme‑wide, industry‑leading approach to carbon reduction. Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live, work and play.

What you’ll be doing
Governance
  • Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities.
Commercial Management
  • Lead the day‑to‑day commercial management of the project, ensuring compliance with the main contract and subcontract agreements.
  • Administer the defined cost contract including disallowed cost assessments, compensation events and pain/gain verification.
  • Support project cost forecasting and manage the cost control process to maintain budget discipline.
Customer/Change Management
  • Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management.
  • Maintain effective communication with the client’s commercial and project management teams to ensure alignment on financial and contractual matters.
  • Manage change control processes, including early warnings, compensation event notifications and submission of detailed quotations in accordance with the contract.
  • Provide robust valuation and justification for changes, ensuring entitlement is demonstrated and recoverable.
  • Support risk and opportunity management, identifying and escalating potential commercial risks early.
Reporting
  • Support the preparation of periodic commercial reports for senior management and client review meetings.
  • Monitor and report on subcontractor account status, including payments, liabilities and variations.
  • Provide commercial input into project reviews, audits and lessons‑learned exercises.
  • Contribute to project dashboards, ensuring key commercial metrics, KPIs and earned value data are up to date.
Who we’re looking for
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge.
  • MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB or working towards them.
  • CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person).
