Job description

Overview

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a Senior Piping Engineer to join our EMEA team out of our office in Manchester, UK.

In this role, you will work on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or Lead Designer. You will also play a role in the entire design process, including but not limited to preliminary assessments, concept creation, design, and problem resolution.

Responsibilities

• Develop design concepts; prepare documents during the design development phase.
• Corrects and updates design documents.
• Develops solutions to design problems.
• Use computer-aided design technologies to develop sketches, drawings, and construction documents. Reviews drawings and documents to ensure compliance with company design and production standards.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and assist the project team in evaluating commercial proposals.
• Works with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion. Interacts with clients on a limited basis to secure scope and design intent.
• Archive and retrieve data from electronic database for support of work.
• Research equipment selection from catalogues under the direction of the Project Designer/Engineer.
• Ensure acceptable levels of quality and checks for coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination.
• Coordinate design work with related engineering disciplines.
• Attend job and construction meetings and participate in the coordination of the work.
• Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials.
• Support field installation and start-up activities.
• Provide limited contribution to performance reviews for assigned staff.
• Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 10+ years of previous design experience.
• A Technical or associate degree in drafting and/or design from an accredited technical institution or college is preferred.
• Must be proficient in the use of a computer for design and understand CAD operations. General knowledge of mechanical and electrical system design. Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes.
• Proven time management skills to juggle more than one project at a time.
• Customer Service experience exhibiting strong oral and written communication skills.
• Process industrial experience, especially in the Life Sciences industries, is preferred.
