A leading energy technology firm in the UK seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and design fuel cell products. You will work with a cross-functional team to ensure timely delivery of designs, incorporating engineering best practices and a customer-focused approach. The ideal candidate has experience in product development and is proficient in SolidWorks. The role offers a range of benefits including private healthcare and a salary sacrifice pension scheme.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your passion for Mechanical Design to the design and development of our fuel cell products.
Working as part of a cross‑functional team, you will be responsible for the on‑time delivery of designs and documentation detailing parts and assemblies of appropriate manufacturability against a set of customer requirements.
You will ensure that engineering best practice, including DfX principles are incorporated into the product development lifecycle. You will contribute towards the long‑term mechanical design strategy to standardise, simplify and modularise our products.
You will have proven product development experience. It is key that you have a commercial mindset and the ability to work with a flexible and solutions focused approach, in an agile and fast paced environment. You must also be able to work collaboratively with a cross‑functional team alongside both technical and non‑technical colleagues. As such, excellent communication skills are vital.
You will hold a BEng, BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or possess an appropriate non‑degree level qualification alongside suitable industrial experience.
You will have hands‑on experience with structured design process methodologies and be able to demonstrate the application of DfX principles, including Design for Manufacture (DfM) and an understanding of manufacturing limitations and techniques. Proficiency in a 3D parametric CAD package preferably SolidWorks is essential, with strong skills in component modelling, assembly creation, and drafting engineering drawings. Knowledge of FMEA application is also expected.
Experience in defining and delivering sub‑systems would be advantageous.
This role is based on site at our Loughborough Facility.
