A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Senior Design Engineer in Mechanical Building Services, your day is centered around producing and reviewing technical solutions for major projects in Manchester. You’ll collaborate closely with a diverse team of engineers and designers, ensuring that all mechanical systems meet contractual, legal, and industry standards. Your role involves significant interaction with other design disciplines, providing technical input to live projects and tenders.

You’ll be responsible for planning, monitoring, and delivering work packages on time and within budget, while also offering governance on proposals from others. Although primarily office‑based, your role may occasionally require site visits to address construction‑level issues.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Input into detailing and specification of auxiliary systems to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Review and approve technical specifications for HV substation and interconnector projects.
  • Evaluate supplier technical documents during tender and project delivery stages.
  • Provide technical expertise and conduct design reviews of subcontractor packages.
  • Collaborate with engineering planners to develop and review project programs.
  • Contribute to design and project risk registers.
  • Take ownership and accountability for your area of responsibility.
  • Work with cross‑disciplinary teams to ensure projects are fully resourced.
  • Manage and facilitate the work of others, supporting professional development.
  • Manage your own time, resources, programs, and budgets effectively.
What You’ll Bring
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Building Services or equivalent.
  • Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience.
  • Membership of CIBSE or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Significant experience in designing solutions for industrial applications.
  • Competence in Hevacomp and familiarity with the latest standards and technologies.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit/Stabicad is beneficial.
  • Ability to organise work and meet deadlines independently.
  • Self‑motivated with excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and an approachable demeanor.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training to stay updated with industry standards.
