Job description

ADAS ALM, a member of RSK Group Ltd, is looking to recruit a motivated and ambitious Senior Livestock Consultant to join the team, working primarily on delivering and expanding our range of poultry consultancy projects.

The role requires the skills to develop and deliver technical and strategic consultancy. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership and support to others, prepare detailed technical reports for a range of clients, gather and analyse data, and liaise with poultry industry stakeholders. Previous experience of undertaking literature reviews would be an advantage.

A broad understanding of current poultry sector issues, policy impacts and trends in production costs is essential. Several years of experience would be beneficial, but full training will be provided.

The successful candidate will have transferrable skills applying periodically to projects focusing on other livestock sectors, particularly pigs.

This role will be predominantly home-based, with regular attendance at an ADAS office initially for training. The successful applicant must also be able to travel throughout England, Wales, occasionally Ireland and elsewhere for client meetings, training, and events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a wide range of government, sector bodies, corporate and farming clients.
  • Maintain professionalism, good writing, communication, handle and present information and data to clients in reports and presentations.
  • Generate and follow up sales leads and prepare costed bids for new consultancy projects, using ADAS methodologies.
Person Specification
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the livestock sector (preferably with poultry) or in a consultancy related role.
  • A working understanding of policy, environmental and efficiency drivers affecting the poultry sector.
  • A degree or a postgraduate qualification relevant to agriculture, or a related degree (e.g. in another science subject) with relevant practical experience.
  • A broad understanding of the structure and key players in the UK poultry sector.
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills with the ability to develop collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
  • Excellent report writing skills, an ability to evaluate information and to draw conclusions and recommendations.
  • Good computer literacy, using the full suite of Microsoft office programs including MS Word to write reports and MS Excel for data handling.
  • Understand and communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Full driving licence and own transport.
  • Flexibility in the range of work undertaken.
Other Desirable Attributes
  • Sales experience, generating consultancy or other work within the agricultural sector.
  • A working understanding of the UK pig sector, key players and current issues.
  • Experience in managing and/or mentoring staff.
