About the Role – Senior Cyber Security & Infrastructure Engineer

We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior Cyber Security & Infrastructure Engineer to lead and safeguard our digital estate. In this pivotal role, you’ll take ownership of our Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 security infrastructure, ensuring resilience, compliance, and alignment with our Digital & Data strategy.

As the organisation’s go‑to security expert, you’ll design secure solutions, drive governance, and guide colleagues across the business. You’ll be central to building a robust cyber security posture that enables innovation while protecting critical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own, manage, and evolve our cyber security infrastructure with a focus on Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable cloud and hybrid architectures aligned with best practice and UK compliance requirements.
  • Lead on vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and remediation activities.
  • Monitor and respond to threats using Azure Sentinel, Microsoft Defender suite, and threat intelligence tools.
  • Define and execute incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Ensure compliance with frameworks and regulations including NCSC, ISO 27001, NIST CSF.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for identity and access management (IAM), Zero Trust, and Conditional Access in Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Collaborate with teams across the organisation to embed security into projects, systems, and daily operations.
  • Provide clear security guidance to technical and non‑technical stakeholders, tailoring communications to the audience.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree in a cyber security–related discipline (2:1 or above).
  • Professional certification (e.g. CISSP, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500), SC-100, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience across at least two security domains (e.g. identity, cloud, network, application, or incident response).
  • Strong background in risk assessments, compliance checks, and IT audits (ISO 27001).
  • Hands‑on experience with penetration testing, remediation, and vulnerability management.
  • Proven knowledge of incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Expertise in Microsoft security tooling:
  • – Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Defender for Office 365
  • – Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM/SOAR)
  • – Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
  • Strong understanding of security controls (firewalls, SIEM, SOC operations, DLP, endpoint protection).
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing security governance frameworks for cloud‑first or hybrid environments.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Additional Desirable Attributes
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust architectures and secure design principles.
  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI) for security operations.
  • Knowledge of ITIL‑aligned service management.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
