School Crossing Patrol Officer – Galleywood Infants & St Michael’s Junior, Barnard Road, Galleywood

Permanent, Term Time – approximately 6.66 hours per week. Holiday pay element included. Hours: 08:30‑09:05 (morning) and 14:45‑15:30 (afternoon) during 39 weeks of the academic year.

Pay: £13.00 per hour.

Location: Chelmsford.

Working Style: Community‑based worker.

About The Role

Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.

We are looking for a punctual, reliable and approachable individual who enjoys engaging with the public.

Uniform, equipment and training will be provided.

Responsibilities
  • To have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site to identify any problems; report problems and defects to supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents, failure‑to‑stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements are requested when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
