School Crossing Officer – Danbury Park Community School

Permanent, Part Time

Pay and hours: £13.00 per hour, 7.5 hours per week (approximately).
Hours are 45 minutes between 08:00 – 09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45 – 15:45 in the afternoon, depending on site needs.

Location: Danbury (Well Lane, Danbury CM3 4AB).

Working style: Operational field‑based worker. This role requires the candidate to be mobile over the area and may involve a driving licence and access to a vehicle or other reasonable mobility arrangements.

As a School Crossing Patrol Officer, you will support the local community by safeguarding pupils and other pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding areas. You will work once in the morning and once in the afternoon with the school and surrounding traffic. You will be supplied with uniform, equipment and training to support traffic management and safe pedestrian crossings.

Responsibilities
  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, particularly mobility‑impaired persons using the crossing site.
  • Maintain regular contact with schools whose pupils use the crossing.
  • Assess risks at the crossing site, identify problems and report defects to the supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing reports on accidents, traffic failures or other incidents at the crossing site.
  • Ensure all uniform and equipment remains in good condition, requesting replacements as needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers to stop traffic, maintaining traffic at rest until the road is clear of pedestrians.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a suitable vehicle, or demonstrate alternate mobility arrangements.
  • Must be able to attend work during the 39 weeks of the academic year.
  • Subject to a DBS check; DBS certificates must be kept up to date via the DBS Update Service.
