Job summary

A municipal government is seeking candidates for the role of School Crossing Guard to supervise children crossing roads safely. Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE THIS JOB POSTING IS TO GENERATE AN APPLICANT POOL FOR FUTURE REGULAR AND RELIEF SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD POSITIONS

The School Crossing Guard will assist and supervise school-age children with crossing roads in various locations of the municipality in a safe and professional manner.

Responsibilities
  • Remain aware of traffic situations
  • Display crossing sign and use caution while guiding children and families safely across roadways
  • Ensure the safety of children crossing streets and intersections
  • Maintain a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude toward children, their guardians and the general public
  • Model and reinforce proper behaviour and adherence to safety rules
  • Report dangerous driving, crossing practices or issues to the appropriate authorities
Qualifications, Competencies
  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector
  • Must demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions while keeping in mind the safety of children
  • Good observation skills and the ability to interact with children and the general public in a positive manner
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, relaying information in a clear and concise manner with the ability to handle stressful situations
  • Must be available to work split shifts and be able to provide your own transportation
  • Able to perform the essential duties of the job including standing for long periods of time, outdoors and in all weather conditions
