Job summary

A community sports club in Acton is seeking a Safeguarding Manager to promote best practices in safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults. You will ensure up-to-date training for all coaches and volunteers while acting as the key contact for safeguarding issues. This voluntary role plays a vital part in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.

Chelsea Handball Club

We are a community sports club dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. We are seeking a Safeguarding Manager to help ensure we meet our statutory safeguarding obligations and establish best practice.

You will be contributing to bringing more people into physical movement via handball—particularly physically inactive social groups such as children and young people, women and girls, and financially disadvantaged socio‑economic groups, in accordance with Sport England's strategy.

Role Purpose

To ensure the safety and well-being of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults involved in the club by promoting best practices in safeguarding and acting as the main point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on safeguarding – Promote a safe and inclusive environment by helping the club implement its safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Point of contact – Act as the main contact for anyone in the club (children, parents, coaches, volunteers) who has a safeguarding concern.
  • Liaise with external bodies – Work with relevant external organizations (e.g. national governing body, local authorities) when necessary to report or elevate safeguarding issues.
  • Training & education – Ensure all coaches and volunteers have up-to-date safeguarding training and understand their responsibilities.
  • Record keeping – Maintain confidential records of safeguarding concerns and actions taken.
  • Policy review – Support the club committee in reviewing and updating safeguarding policies and procedures annually or as needed.
  • Promote awareness – Encourage a culture of openness and awareness where children and vulnerable adults feel safe and able to speak up.
