Job description

Agal Wellbeing Services is a charity founded to help South Asian families deal with domestic violence and mental health. The Safeguarding Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating counsellors and Domestic Abuse (DA) case workers.

Working as a safeguarding lead, you will help ensure adults at risk are protected from harm, abuse, and neglect. You will collaborate with local authorities and other organisations to strengthen safeguarding efforts across society, contributing to a safer and more inclusive community.

Skills and Education
  • Registered with BACP.
  • Extensive post‑qualification experience in social care.
  • Strong background in safeguarding.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop teams, ensuring high performance.
Desirable Skills
  • Previous experience in a leadership or management role within a local authority.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting the South Asian community in relation to domestic abuse.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good report writing skills, including preparing reports for courts, case conferences, and information for Multi‑Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARACs).
  • Experience managing a caseload, building strategies for action, and meeting goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direction, support, and supervision to a team of social workers, ensuring effective case management.
  • Play a lead role in developing and establishing the organisation’s approach to safeguarding adults and in maintaining and reviewing the implementation plan in line with current legislation and best practice.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of the safeguarding adult policy, procedures and resources throughout the organisation.
  • Contribute to ensuring other policies and procedures are consistent with the organisation’s commitment to safeguarding adults.
  • Advise on the organisation’s training needs and the development of its training strategy.
  • Receive reports of and manage cases of poor practice and abuse reported to the organisation – including an appropriate recording system.
  • Create a central point of contact for internal and external individuals and agencies concerned about the safety of adults within the organisation.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, policies, and best practices to maintain high‑quality service delivery.
  • Represent the organisation at external meetings related to safeguarding.
General Duties
  • Ensure effective implementation of Agal’s Equality and Diversity policies and awareness and integration of an equalities and human rights agenda in all your work.
  • Be responsible for personal learning and development, keeping up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to service users and the domestic violence field.
  • Carry out your own administrative duties and work across teams to undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and character of the work.
