Researcher to National Officer (Research and Policy Department, Head Office)

Salary: £33,044 pa rising to £39,577 pa after four years of service.

Location: Head Office, Salford Quays, M50 3XZ.

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers is one of the UK's largest trade unions.

A vacancy exists for a Researcher based at the Union's Head Office.

Principal Duties

Provide advice and information on employee relations, employment, political, economic, and social issues; support the Union's campaigning work as required; provide a support service to National Officers; and provide advice to members, reps and officials on company and sectors‑specific issues.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of employee relations.
  • Ability to develop knowledge quickly on a wide range of topics and respond to fast‑moving situations.
  • Proficiency in prioritising work, including anticipating other people's timescales and demands, and possessing well‑developed planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and liaise competently with officials, staff, members, and employers.
  • Skill in understanding and consolidating complex member queries and identifying the relevant information to assist them.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to recognise when to refer more complex queries.

Interviews are expected to take place during the week commencing 12 January 2026.
