Description

The Greenock Telegraph is looking for a talented and ambitious reporter to join our team in Inverclyde.

We’re seeking a versatile journalist who can deliver breaking news and in-depth features on a busy patch. You’ll be passionate about digital storytelling, brimming with ideas, and eager to find innovative ways to present stories across multiple platforms.

A key part of the role involves building strong community connections, engaging with readers on social media, and understanding what matters most to our audience. From local politics and council meetings to court coverage and inspiring human-interest stories, you’ll cover the news that matters to our local communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate fresh ideas and maximise digital storytelling opportunities.
  • Understand what readers want and deliver content that meets those needs.
  • Be a digital native, with storytelling at the heart of everything you produce.
  • Build strong relationships with key contacts to enhance coverage.
  • Use analytics tools to drive success and engagement.
  • Work independently and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • A journalism degree and NCTJ qualifications, including 100wpm shorthand.
  • Ideally, experience working on a busy news publication – but highly motivated trainees are welcome to apply.
  • A can‑do attitude and excellent time management skills.
  • A driving licence and access to a car (desirable).

This is a full‑time role based at our Greenock office in Inverclyde.
