  • To be responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the residential children’s home, including care delivery, strategic planning, and staff management.
  • To support, lead, and manage a team of staff who provide protection and promote the physical, psychological, emotional, and social development of children and young people.

Job Purpose

To lead and manage the children’s home in line with the ethos and values of Willow Care Group, delivering positive outcomes and high‑quality care as outlined in the home’s Statement of Purpose.
To ensure full compliance with all regulatory frameworks, safeguarding requirements, and organisational policies while fostering an aspirational, safe, and nurturing environment for children and young people.

General Duties
  • Oversee all aspects of service delivery including staff management, supervision, care planning, safeguarding, communication, reporting, and quality monitoring.
  • Ensure full implementation of statutory and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015, Children Act 1989, Data Protection Act 1998, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with multi‑agency partners, parents, and the wider community.
  • Ensure staff are trained, skilled, and supported to meet the needs of each child or young person.
  • Lead the home in an aspirational and inspiring way for children, young people, and staff.
  • Produce monitoring reports, statistical data, and evaluations within agreed deadlines.
  • Embed principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the service.
Specific Duties
  • Ensure the home’s ethos is embedded in daily practice and children are actively involved in their care.
  • Lead safeguarding, risk management, and overall governance to maintain a safe environment.
  • Oversee access to health, education, social, and emotional support tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Monitor children’s outcomes and progress, ensuring positive developmental results.
  • Supervise, support, and develop staff through guidance, performance management, and professional development.
  • Lead recruitment, induction, team building, and manage staffing structures, rotas, and on‑call schedules.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative working culture while managing sickness absence and staff compliance.
  • Maintain a safe, well‑equipped home and manage budgets, resources, and administrative functions.
  • Conduct quality audits, manage complaints, and ensure compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, and SSCIF.
  • Prepare for Ofsted inspections, maintain constructive relationships with inspectors, and submit required Regulation 44 and 45 reports.
Qualifications and Education
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (or working towards)
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with children in the last 8 years (required)
  • Supervisory or management experience within a residential childcare setting (required)
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families (required)
  • Experience in inter‑agency collaboration (required)
  • Childcare: 5 years (required)
  • Leadership/Management: 2 years (preferred)
