We’re looking for a Programme Engineering Lead. Based at our Capenhurst site you’ll be working within the Directorate of Engineering & Projects, the purpose of this role is to ensure engineering resource and capability assigned to deliver the technical aspects of site capital projects are technically fit for purpose and meets all statutory requirements, from initial project evaluation and conception, through to project handover and closeout.

The Programme Engineering Lead sets the overall technical direction for multi-disciplinary projects and acts as the key decision maker, ensuring a suitable balance between all potentially conflicting drivers is achieved. They oversee the development and approval of design/engineering delivery strategies and schedules, ensuring all relevant engineering disciplines and interfaces are accounted for, and strong stakeholder relationships are developed and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships is essential, as well as developing extensive engineering management experience and expertise. The job remit stretches from engineering management and design strategies, through supplier selection and evaluation, to direct delivery of engineering/design and implementation scope for selected projects.

The Programme Engineering Lead manages the evaluation, development and implementation of complex design engineering solutions, overseeing all engineering aspects during the construction, installation and commissioning in order to ensure effective and efficient completion of projects. They plan and direct all design and technical resources working on their assigned projects, managing the interfaces between all relevant engineering disciplines. They represent their assigned projects/programme from a technical perspective at key stakeholder meetings and have oversight of the basis of key decisions and a detailed understanding of the technical position of the projects they are assigned. They also maintain day‑to‑day oversight of the Senior Project Engineers and Project Engineers who report into them.

The Programme Engineering Lead combines solid generalist understanding of a wide range of engineering disciplines, ensuring the effective management of multiple engineering disciplines which deliver integrated, fit for purpose design solutions.

What you’ll do:
  • Actively promote a pro‑active safety culture throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the project/programme engineering team to enable successful delivery of the capital programme and forward capital plan. Maintain day‑to‑day oversight of engineering team activities within the project/programme.
  • Work in collaboration with the Project Management function to effectively plan and direct the day‑to‑day activities of assigned technical resources that are allocated to project(s).
  • Ensure that an aligned and integrated approach for how the engineering and technical activities are planned, prioritised, coordinated and delivered at a project/programme level.
  • Develop and implement engineering/design strategies, ensuring proportionate and appropriate engineering solutions are compliant with engineering principles and procedures, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications and legislation, including safety case and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Ensure that design and constructability reviews are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with Urenco procedures.
  • Delivery of engineering/design solutions to meet project safety, cost, schedule and business benefits objectives, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure Urenco’s commercial position is robustly protected through the application of good industry practice in contracting strategies, supplier selection, procurement, contract negotiation and contract management.
What do you need to thrive in this role?
  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Professional qualification e.g. (CEng) (where applicable)
  • Ability to analyse project requirements and critical success factors and translate these into bespoke Engineering/Design Strategies
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing cost predictability
  • Demonstrable experience in fulfilling the role of CDM Principal Designer
