Overview

Join to apply for the Prison Services Pharmacy Technician role at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will provide a medicines management service to patients within the prison with the professional support of a prison service pharmacist. You will administer medicines to patients against a valid prescription, ensuring this is taken correctly, provide advice to patients about the appropriate use of medicines and promote healthy lifestyles to aid their rehabilitation.

You will dispense prescriptions and stock items, while supervising assistants when in the dispensary. There will also be elements of stock control, such as top-up services, reviewing expiry dates and storage facilities for all medicines, and reporting any deficiencies to the prison service pharmacist.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a medicines management service to prisoners within the prison, with professional supervision from a prison service pharmacist.
  • Administer medicines to patients against valid prescriptions and advise on appropriate use of medicines.
  • Dispense prescriptions and stock items; supervise assistants in the dispensary.
  • Undertake stock control tasks, including stock top-up, checking expiry dates and storage facilities; report deficiencies to the prison service pharmacist.
  • Be an accredited checking technician providing final dispensing checks or medicines optimisation qualification where applicable.
  • Ensure high standards of work in the dispensary, clinics, and wings; read and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist the Senior Prisons Technician with writing, updating and monitoring medicines optimisation SOPs.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Willingness to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a prison setting (pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team).
  • Proof of right to work documentation and proof of ID (including one photographic ID).
  • Proof of address documentation; non-UK passport holders must have correct right-to-work documentation and a Home Office Share code.
  • Address history for 5 years; applicants not UK passport holders with less than 5 years UK address history may need a Police Certificate or English translation where applicable.
  • UK passport holders who have lived abroad for more than six months in the last three years may need a certificate of good conduct or overseas police check in English.
  • Guidance for obtaining Police Certificates can be sought from official government sources if needed.
