We are offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled, experienced, and forward‑thinking Principal Structures Engineer to join our expanding Highway Infrastructure Service.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the delivery of bridge and highway structures projects, inspections, and maintenance programmes across the borough. You will be responsible for the strategic asset management of highway structures, ensuring statutory compliance, structural safety, and long‑term serviceability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the delivery of a diverse portfolio of structures projects and programmes
  • Oversee inspections, assessments, and maintenance of highway structures
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards
  • Provide expert advice on structural safety and asset condition
  • Manage budgets, contracts, and resources effectively
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors to deliver high‑quality outcomes

  • Proven expertise in the inspection, assessment, and management of highway structures
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to maintain momentum across multiple programmes at varying stages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • A track record of evidence‑based decision‑making and problem‑solving in complex environments
  • Experience in financial and contract management, with sound judgement and accountability
