Summary

We are seeking a full‑time Principal Structural Engineer with strong design background to support our structural engineering team in London. The team undertakes a wide variety of projects for the private and public sector, across a range of development sectors. We seek to provide integrated solutions incorporating state‑of‑the‑art design.

Responsibilities

We require an experienced individual of high calibre to assist in the design and management of structural engineering works associated with a wide variety of major and challenging infrastructure projects for the private and public sector. Specifically, we are seeking to strengthen our design and delivery capacity and require an applicant experienced in a broad range of projects. Experience of design and the design process throughout all stages from concept to delivery is essential, as well as managing small teams to achieve each client’s requirements. Experience in the management of other design disciplines will be helpful though not essential.

You will take individual responsibility for a range of project types, manage them independently and be the client’s main point of contact. Projects range in size but may include development of significant estate portfolios, or smaller individual projects. Projects are typically a mixture of new‑build and refurbishment. Sectors would include healthcare, education, defence & security, commercial, science & technology, and others. You will lead independently and proactively on technical aspects including preparing designs, specification, technical approval submissions, site supervision and will be fully conversant with industry design standards. There will also be the opportunity to work collaboratively with senior management on research projects and innovative initiatives.

About You
  • Be a chartered civil or structural engineer (CEng and either MICE or MIStructE).
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently, a collaborative approach and a proven ability to deliver work on time.
  • Be confident working directly with clients, other design professionals, and contractors.
  • Have strong experience and bring a sound knowledge and understanding of structural engineering projects through your proven experience. You can demonstrate your abilities in producing drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
  • Have technical knowledge including use of industry‑standard software (ideally Tekla/Robot) and basic ability with Revit.
  • Have sound experience of commercial management of projects and change control.
  • Be committed to encouraging good health and safety practices within the workplace and within design.
  • Display enthusiasm, flexibility, and versatility as a team player.
  • Be able to mentor, enthuse and support team members.
  • Have a desire to build upon your existing experience, continuing your professional development with Tetra Tech.
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
  • Have the ability to obtain UK security clearance.
