Whatever your ambitions, our aim is to enable everyone to realise their knowledge, give their best, and enjoy what they do.

About the role

We have a brand-new opportunity for a Principal or Associate Electrical Engineer to join our Operational Assets team based in our Oxford office.

Are you passionate about existing buildings? Do you thrive on designing pragmatic solutions to operational and performance issues? Are you interested in using real-time data to understand buildings and drive towards a net zero future?

Our newly formed Operational Assets team merges property consultancy, design engineering and data-led building performance to provide a holistic service, creating value through building lifecycles. We embed within client teams to set roadmaps toward sustainability, from concept to implementation and operation, offering a holistic suite of services to identify improvements, design solutions with minimal disruption, manage implementation and monitor impact.

We have a proven track record in the Residential, Commercial and Healthcare sectors. You will join a collaborative, knowledgeable team that values its people. Previous experience in the Science & Research sector is required for this position, as it is the primary focus of our Oxford Office.

What you’ll be doing

  • Secure new projects and service existing and new clients, supporting the regional lead in planning the specialist delivery of the Operational Assets group.
  • Focus on work delivery, organisational support and team growth to support local and regional clients.
  • Demonstrate leadership by supervising and guiding team members and other staff.
  • Collaborate with other teams to deliver a wide variety of projects, with regular workload discussions with Team Leaders.
  • Recruit, train and develop team members to ensure ongoing succession and growth of the Practice.
  • Undertake own design, specification and site monitoring, monitor commissioning and conduct post-occupancy engineering services activities.
  • Write technical reports (feasibility, issue investigation, condition surveys, etc.).
  • Liaise with clients (commercial and project management awareness).

What you’ll be doing – project focus

You will work on a varied portfolio of frameworks and UK-based projects, with some overseas opportunities. You will take the lead on small projects up to a few million pounds, providing technical support to end users, landlords, management agents and project managers.

The Operational Assets scope includes:

  1. Decarbonisation, performance improvements and energy reduction – projects to reduce energy use, improve occupant comfort and achieve decarbonisation/net zero targets, from strategic roadmaps to implementation.
  2. Design – specialising in challenging existing buildings across all RIBA stages, delivering creative and sustainable design strategies.
  3. Property consultancy – technical due diligence, planned maintenance reports, licences to alter, maintenance inspections, validations management, asset registers, troubleshooting, energy optimisation surveys, EPCs.

Projects span Commercial Offices, Retail, Residential, Education, Healthcare, MoJ, Defence, Heritage, Industrial and Technology. Previous experience in the Science & Research sector is required for this position.

About you

To be successful, you’ll need:

  • Qualified design engineer (chartered status or working towards).
  • Experience working on projects in existing buildings (refurbishment and fit-out).
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • Strong knowledge of data and metering.
  • Experience with performance specification and detailed design work, contract administration and site duties.
  • Experience in Building Services as an all-rounder.
  • Willingness and strong technical knowledge in primary engineering discipline with good understanding of secondary disciplines.
  • Comfortable with UK and applicable EU regulations and design guides.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills to meet timescales and deadlines.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Proven track record in work winning and building successful teams.
