Principal Construction Engineer – Reading Office, Wood

We are recruiting for a Principal Construction Engineer to join our Reading Home Office team, providing support for the successful delivery of projects. The position will be based in our Reading office with hybrid working considered.

The Role

This role is suitable for an experienced Principal Construction Engineer who is familiar with developing construction execution methodologies and has a structured approach to work packaging. It may also be suitable for a Senior Construction Engineer who is seeking to develop their career and take on more responsibility.

Willingness to undertake business trips and assignments away from the home office is necessary. The ideal candidate will be part of the Construction Engineering Team and will report directly to the Construction Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Lead construction involvement on projects from concept through to EPC/EPCM
  • Depending on project scale, lead or support development of the Project Construction Execution Plan
  • Provide construction expertise to support design development and project planning, ensuring realistic and efficient construction activities
  • Lead constructability and HAZCON (construction risk) reviews
  • Lead Advanced Work Packaging implementation, including construction work area, construction work package breakdowns, and establishing the Path of Construction
  • Perform construction feasibility and method studies
  • Support development of the contracting philosophy for the project
  • Ensure contract deliverables, documents and specifications are produced to meet project needs and schedule
  • Coordinate preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, requisitions and bid summaries for all temporary facilities and construction equipment
  • Classify and coordinate heavy lift, transportation, heavy load and traffic movement studies
  • Review the project estimate to ensure scope completeness and correctness of construction input
  • Identify construction deliverables and control and schedule them using the Wood Document Management System
  • Mentor and assist in training Senior and Construction Engineers

  • Experience with planning construction logistics and execution, including heavy lift, plot layout, temporary facilities, and site workforce & plant movement
  • Ability to lead construction constructability and HAZCON risk assessment
