Job description

We’re looking for a driven and detail-focused part-time Manager or experienced Assistant Manager to join SKO Accountants, either remotely or in our North London office. We’re a fast-moving, kind team that cares deeply about our clients and the quality of our work. Our culture is built on honesty, clarity, and a drive to deliver sharp communication, useful insights, and quick, reliable support.

We act as an extension of our client’s teams, offering hands-on support, fast responses, and practical commercial advice across their day-to-day finance operations. Most of our clients are fast-growing startups and SMEs in the tech, e-commerce, and creative sectors. We focus on helping them navigate the financial side of growth with clarity and confidence.

If you’re looking to move beyond repetitive compliance work and into a dynamic role where you genuinely make a difference, this is it.

This role is only open to UK-based accountants or UK-trained accountants now living abroad. We do not provide any visa sponsorships!

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll manage a portfolio of clients and be involved in:

  • Overseeing the full finance function, from bookkeeping to year-end accounts
  • Preparing or reviewing monthly management accounts with clear commentary and insight
  • Reviewing VAT returns, PAYE submissions, and other filings
  • Leading or supporting payment runs, payroll journals, and reconciliations
  • Improving processes and recommending better tools and automation
  • Supporting onboarding, including Xero setups and process mapping
  • Communicating with clients via Slack, email, and video calls – being proactive, not reactive
  • Providing commercial advice on areas like dividends, company structure, and funding
  • Supporting junior staff with reviews and coaching

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 2–4 years post-qualification experience
  • Super organised, reliable, and allergic to faff
  • Attention to detail is crucial
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles – you know your way around a TB, journals, and CT600s
  • Confident dealing with founders, especially when the numbers are messy or incomplete
  • Clear communicator – written and verbal – who prefers plain English over jargon
  • Able to manage multiple deadlines and work calmly under pressure

Nice to Haves

  • Strong Xero experience (Dext, BrightPay, Apron, ApprovalMax also useful)
  • Handling ad hoc queries like HMRC letters or Companies House updates
  • Experience with startups, e-commerce brands, or founder-led businesses
  • Familiarity with HMRC processes, company secretarial work, or R&D claims
  • Tech-savvy and curious about automation
  • You enjoy finding ways to save time, reduce manual work, and bring AI into your workflow
  • A commercial mindset – you like understanding business models, not just balancing books

The Package

  • 22 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Mobile phone or equipment allowance
  • Fully remote or in the office
  • Quarterly team strategy days, including team-building, lunch, and fun socials
  • Supportive team with direct access to the partner for learning and progression
  • We’re a young and growing team, so this is very much a work in progress with room to shape things as we go
