Due to significant growth across our Transmission & Distribution Ltd UK business, we are building a talent pool of Overhead Lines (OHL) Project Managers for UK-wide opportunities. We are seeking first appointment and experienced OHL Project Managers with extensive experience in delivering 132/275/400kV OHL projects to join Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd, focusing on overseeing project management, delivery, safety, financial compliance, and timeliness. Role and responsibilities

As a first appointment or established Overhead Lines (OHL) Project Manager, you will join us at the forefront of delivering critical electrical infrastructure. You will ideally be from a construction/electricity supply industry background, with experience in tendering and delivering large 132/275/400kV OHL projects, supporting our clients UK wide.

Reporting to the Senior OHL Project Manager, you will oversee project management and delivery, ensuring safety, financial compliance, and timeliness. Your role will involve upholding high standards in project execution, aligning with T&D and client objectives. You will lead project teams through all phases of design, construction, commissioning and close-out. Essential skills include programme/project management, planning, and managing design requirements and budgets for OHL projects. Familiarity with client/DNO technical standards and policies is preferable.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of win plans for strategic bids and tenders
  • Delivering all stages of assigned projects to meet key program milestones, including mobilisation of new projects
  • Approving scope of works, plans, and estimates for each project element
  • Ensuring consistency in project controls (PMP, QA/QC, CPP)
  • Managing project planning, risk & change management, EVM analysis, budget control, and cash flow
  • Prioritising resources and resolving conflicts to improve delivery
  • Promoting performance management within delivery teams
  • Producing monthly project reports and maintaining high programming standards
  • Resolving issues on projects and providing leadership as needed
  • Demonstrating SHE leadership and promoting a safe culture
  • Adhering to company policies on SHE management
  • Applying lessons learned and innovations within the Wood T&D business
  • Ensuring quality and professionalism throughout the project cycle
  • Monitoring NEC Contract terms, scope, and variations with sub-contractors
  • Managing the Programme of Works, Quality Plan, and Project Risk Register
  • Promoting company values of safety, integrity and commitment
  • Complying with Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental policies (OHSAS 18001, ISO9001:2000, ISO 14001)

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification (Degree/HND/HNC) or equivalent
  • Recognised SHE qualification (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH)
  • Project management qualification
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness
  • Ability to lead and build project teams and resolve site issues
  • Willingness to work away from home regularly and for prolonged periods
  • Experience with SSE, SPEN or NGED and other Distribution Network Operators is preferable
  • Knowledge of Local Authority permit requirements and NEC Forms of Contract
  • Experience managing design requirements for OHL projects and developing client/sub-contractor relationships
  • Understanding of engineering principles, CDM, and client technical standards and safety rules
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of OHL installation techniques, street works, permit submission, and council liaison
  • Financial and commercial understanding
  • Full UK driving licence
