Opportunity Details

Nordic walking is a face-to-face 6-week programme designed to help participants transition from inactivity to activity in a gentle way. It is led by a qualified Nordic walking instructor, and volunteers will support participants referred into this program, which takes place once a week on Thursdays.

Practical Considerations: This role involves accompanying patients on walks; it is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Requirements: Criminal record check (DBS) required

Suitable for: 18 – 25 year olds, Aged 26 and over, University students, Older People, People with a visual impairment

Interested in: End of Life, Bereavement & Hospices, Health and Wellbeing, Mental Health, Sport, Activity & Outdoor Pursuits

Full Description

Purpose of this role:

The rehabilitation team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Rehab Assistants, and other Volunteers. Volunteers will support a 6-week Nordic walking programme aimed at helping inactive individuals become active, led by a qualified instructor, starting on 11th September.

Main Tasks:

  • Assist the instructor with setting up equipment
  • Support participants with using Nordic poles
  • Ensure participants stay hydrated
  • Support and supervise less mobile participants
  • Provide feedback to the rehab team on participant progress and concerns
