National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters thatallow millions of homes and businessesto access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a key operational team at the heart of the physical operation of the NTS (National Transmission System) as a Network Control Engineer.
As one of the primary NCC (National Control Centre) support teams, Network Control Engineers are involved in a wide range of challenging and interesting projects, covering all mechanical and Electrical & Instrumentation interventions on the NTS.
In this role you will act on behalf of the NCC and wider SO (System Operations) to plan, review, assess and help design changes to the NTS. This includes maintenance, construction, commissioning and decommissioning activities – you will work closely with the Network Access and Short Term Risk team to achieve this.
Your main responsibility is to ensure security of supply and manage the risks associated with the loss of operational assets. In doing this, the role also offers the opportunity to learn about the commercial operation of the NTS as well as engaging with teams and subject matter experts on a wide variety of topics, both internally and across the wider gas industry.
As well as interactions with the NCC and wider SO, the Network Control team work closely with Field Operations, Construction, customer projects, planners, asset engineers, National Gas Services, terminals and customers from Distribution Networks to power stations.
This role offers a great opportunity to develop your engineering knowledge and provides ongoing training; there is also potential for promotion within the role over time after demonstrating advanced competencies. Past experience in the gas industry in an engineering discipline is highly desirable but not essential as full and comprehensive training will be provided to you once in the team.
Whilst training will be provided on these areas, it would be advantageous for you to have experience within the following competency areas; Network Controller STC (Safety Technical Competency), SCO 91 & 94, GQ STC, Maintenance STC, Operations TC (Technical Competency) and Process Safety trained.
Join us, and help be the energy behind the change.
