Job summary

A leading manufacturing company based in Wigan is looking for a multiskilled maintenance engineer to assist in all engineering activities. This role includes conducting preventative maintenance, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. The successful candidate will have an HNC in Engineering and be proactive in their approach to problem-solving.

  • Perform reactive maintenance to minimize production downtime.
  • Conduct planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain site utilities, buildings, and support services in line with legal and safety standards.
  • Support machine uptime by addressing faults and completing maintenance tasks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying and implementing engineering solutions.

Job description

We are currently a multiskilled maintenance Engineer. The role involves assisting in all engineering activities, liaising with the internal departments to carry out installation, testing, operation, maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment at our Manufacturing site in Wigan.

06:00 - 14:00

14:00 - 22:00

22:00 - 06:00am (1 in five)

Overtime is paid in addition to the basic salary.

Job requirements

  • Perform reactive maintenance to minimise production downtime.
  • Conduct planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on machinery and equipment (mechanical and electrical, if competent).
  • Maintain site utilities, buildings, and support services in line with legal and safety standards.
  • Support machine uptime by addressing faults, performing repairs, and completing maintenance tasks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying and implementing engineering solutions.
  • Support the installation of new equipment, as required.
  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure smooth communication and minimise disruption.
  • Ensure all work meets Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Hygiene standards.

What We're Looking For:

  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience that equates to working at competent level upon hiring.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
