About this opportunity

The FEA (Finite Element Analysis) team undertakes and manages the analysis of FEA models to support the work of Crown and Signode’s Product Development teams. The team also provide technical support & problem‑solving resource to other CT teams and the broader Crown and Signode manufacturing sites.

In this role you will develop competitive design and production solutions that use the optimal amount of material to meet agreed briefs, delivering results with multimillion‑dollar implications. You will ensure effective responses to manufacturing and product performance issues, while providing technical expertise to support both our businesses and customers. In addition, you’ll maintain safe working practices—primarily in an office‑based environment, but with occasional hands‑on involvement—helping us uphold the highest standards of safety and quality.

Main responsibilities
  • Building computer simulations (FEA) and analysing and communicating the results
  • Supporting our project teams with design analysis (mainly structural)
Required education, qualifications and experience
  • Degree or higher education qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Significant industrial experience using FEA software
  • Expertise in numerical simulation methods and approaches
  • Significant depth and breadth of industrial engineering experience
  • Statistical analysis and problem‑solving skills, Black Belt Six Sigma preferable
Required skills and competencies
  • Expert user of Simulia’s Abaqus CAE suite
  • Experience in using SolidWorks CAD
  • Confident with hand calculations and experimental (e.g. laboratory) approaches to support the validation of the FEA results
  • Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills, with excellent command of English
  • Ability to think strategically with attention to details and focused on delivering results
  • Ability to work under pressure and work to tight schedules
  • Confident and influential
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset
  • Integrity driven and a role model for ethical behaviour
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software packages
Beneficial education, experience and skills
  • CEng and/or NAFEMS PSE is desirable
  • High speed sheet metal forming
  • Modelling of polymers
  • Materials testing approaches
  • Proficiency in another language
