Main purpose of this role

As an optometrist with Leightons, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional eye care services that cater to the unique needs of each patient. Our optometrists are integral to our mission of improving lives through better sight and hearing, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, and fostering a collaborative and supportive practice environment.

This role is for an inspiring and evolving, qualified and experienced optometrist who is able to adapt their ways of working to blend in with a variety of teams and provide clinical cover in a range of locations across the Leightons estate of practices. The postholder will have a keen interest in adopting new technologies and ways of working and will support the recruitment and onboarding of new colleagues or new equipment installations. They will be a strong team player who maintains trusting professional relationships with the branch teams and local health care stakeholders helping to educate and delight everyone they engage with.

Duties and Responsibilities


-Provide sight tests and eye examinations to individual patients and customers.

-Provide a range of clinical services including, routine and emergency eye care, paediatric eye care, image or scan interpretation and monitoring of stable glaucoma or retinal conditions, dry eye management and myopia management.

-Provide a range of optical appliances including spectacles, sunglasses, safety eyewear, low vision solutions, rigid and soft contact lenses.

-Tailor recommendations to help address individual patient’s needs, preferences and risk factors.

Professionalism and Governance

-Adhere to GOC standards of practice

-Adhere to contractual terms of NHS enhanced services or co-management services with other eye care providers

-Maintain all equipment in good working order.

-Work with Branch manager and Branch team to resolve any issues as they arise

-Keep contemporaneous records at all times

-Maintain infection prevention and control measures and keep the consulting rooms organised, clean and tidy

-Maintain high standards of personal appearance, timekeeping, attendance and respect of company property, at all times

-Work in a mobile clinical capacity providing clinics in a range of locations

-Provide taster days for candidates in recruitment pipeline

-Provide induction training for new starters in a range of locations

-Communications with Head of Clinical Services to inform of variations in service provision

Leadership and Accountability

-Collaborate with the team to achieve common goals

-Monitor available Clinical Commercial and Caring KPI data reports to help measure and benchmark personal and collaborative performance activity

-Set goals and manage own activity to deliver measurable progress with KPIs

-Ensure all diagnostic contact lens banks, solutions, supplements and ocular drugs are in stock and within use by dates.

-Participate in training support staff to undertake diagnostic and screening tests.

-Utilise all software for record keeping and ordering products.

-Assist other members of the practice team as required, including supervision, coaching and training of others

Communication

-Maximise every opportunity to tailor recommendations of our products and services to help improve patients’ vision, hearing and overall well-being

-Assist the Branch Manager in tracking and monitoring branch performance, actively develop and promote strategies within the practice to increase branch performance

-Operate in line with company policies, procedures and current legislation at all times
