Position Overview

Are you an apprentice trained Mechanical Fitter (Mechanical Engineer) who is passionate about problem solving and maintenance in a world leading manufacturing plant?

At Saint‑Gobain we are looking for a Mechanical Plant Fitter to work in our Engineering Team on shifts. You’ll be responsible for the mechanical engineering activities on site to keep production running and deliver to our customers on time.

What we’re looking for:
  • A mechanical engineer with experience in a construction products manufacturing setting or similar.
  • Minimum NVQ Level III qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline, ideally apprentice trained.
  • Experience of welding, fabricating, bench fitting and machining.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to solve problems and collaborate with shift electricians, operators and other departments where necessary.
  • H&S focus – safety is paramount for our business.
What you will be doing:
  • Reactive and planned engineering works on equipment including grinding mills, blow pots, homogeniser, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, expanders, conveying systems, packing machines, palletisers, weighing systems, gas fired equipment etc.
  • Use root cause analysis to solve problems and communicate relevant data to prevent reoccurrence regarding maintenance problems.
  • Perform robust handovers for the next shift – communication is key.
  • Acting as an ambassador for H&S, challenge concerns and work safely at all times.

This is a shift role, working 4 on 4 off days and nights. After 3 shift blocks of each day/night you then get a block of 16 days off. In reward for your experience and flexibility you’ll have access to a fantastic salary and some amazing benefits including a bonus and healthcare options.
