Job summary

A recruitment agency based in Rhyl is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate – Principal grades) for a hybrid working role. You will design mechanical infrastructure, produce drawings, and mentor junior engineers on UK water projects. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is proficient in design software. This position offers a salary between £35,000 and £65,000 plus benefits.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience on UK water projects, AMP framework knowledge beneficial.
  • Chartered or near-chartered status (IMechE or equivalent) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver mechanical infrastructure including clean and wastewater treatment works.
  • Produce detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead mechanical packages for more complex schemes.

Skills

Strong communication and coordination skills

Contract Rate: Negotiable Outside IR35

Overview

Our client is looking for Mechanical Engineers to join their growing team in Rhyl to support long-term delivery on the Welsh Water framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver mechanical infrastructure including clean and wastewater treatment works
  • Produce detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications
  • Undertake site assessments, surveys, and support construction reviews
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure design compliance
  • Ensure adherence to WIMES, DWI, and industry mechanical standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead mechanical packages for more complex schemes (at senior levels)
Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Previous experience on UK water projects (AMP framework knowledge beneficial)
  • Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor etc.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Chartered or near-chartered status (IMechE or equivalent) desirable
