Responsibilities
  • Designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals with specific needs.
  • Using your practical skills working with metal, wood, plastics, or electronics (or a combination of them).
  • Attending a bi-monthly meeting.
  • We can support you to develop the skills you need for this role, and there’s an induction that covers all the areas above. You’ll also have the chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.
  • Essential needs: Practical experience in working with one of the above materials. Comfort able working with people, listening to them and understanding their needs. Able to apply our risk management system. Disability, equality, and inclusion practices. Keep peoples personal details safe. NB. No medical skills required; clients professional advisors offer guidance ref. the clients\' medical condition. Willing to follow REMAP policies and procedures and a commitment to our values.
  • Desirable needs: Access to some/your own tools and a workshop. Able to drive or have good transport links. You’ll also need to complete an induction checklist, as well as a PVG check (we cover the costs) and reference check.
Experience required

Practical skills, Communication skills, Inventive/Imaginative, patience, empathetic with clients who experience physical difficulties.

Able to drive or have good transport links.

Travel expenses

Transport costs or £0.45/mile, plus out of pocket expenses for materials bought/used.

Support

Induction to include policies and practices, with ongoing mentoring. Training and support based on volunteers\' skills needs.

Restrictions

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
