Job description
Overview

We are a leading manufacturer of convenience food, employing thousands across the UK with sites in Spalding, Wisbech and other locations. We produce coleslaw, potato salad, pasta salads, couscous, and other bulk products for major retailers such as Morrisons, Co‑op, Asda, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Nando’s and Pizza Hut.

Our Spalding site hosts a team of 540 colleagues and includes a restaurant for staff. The Wisbech site covers 450 colleagues and manufactures chilled ready‑to‑cook meals.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Maintenance Engineer you will manage day‑to‑day maintenance tasks and site repairs, ensuring maximum productivity and reliability of plant and equipment.

Shift Pattern

• 3‑shift & 2‑shift nights (night shift)
• 4 on 4 off nights (18:00‑06:00)
• 2 days / 2 nights / 4 off (12‑hour shifts, 42 hrs/week)

Key Responsibilities
  • Planned, preventive and corrective maintenance on production and packaging machinery.
  • Fault finding – mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and PLC faults.
  • Diagnose root causes, propose and implement route‑cause fixes.
  • Document all activities, maintain stock records and audit‑ready logs.
  • Communicate with operations to schedule work and update on progress.
  • Comply with food safety, HACCP, health and safety and regulatory standards.
  • Propose improvement initiatives for health & safety, efficiency and productivity.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and equipment refurbishment.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Level 3 or higher engineering qualification (electrical preferred).
  • Full right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
  • Strong problem‑solving, fault finding and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with 5S, drives, bearings, belts and breakdown response.
Good to Have
  • Experience with machinery installation.
  • Experience in food hygiene or FMCG engineering.
  • Electrical certificate or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship or time‑served qualification.
  • Knowledge of PLC & automation systems.
