Locum Community Consultant Paediatrician

Job Summary

The post holder will provide community paediatrics service, lead multidisciplinary teams, develop and deliver teaching, research and audit. Responsibilities include delivering first‑class clinical service, leading staff, sustaining teaching and research, and working across the Health Board.

Main Duties

• Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
• Sustain and develop teaching and research where appropriate.
• Ensure delivery of a first‑class clinical service.
• Drive multidisciplinary clinical audit and evidence‑based medicine.
• Support and train multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Provide persuasive strategic advice to HB and Social Services.
• Deliver care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams.
• Address the Intermediate Care Agenda.
• Participate in CPD including audit.
• Maintain professional development for revalidation.
• A teaching and training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates, educational supervisor for junior and middle grade staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.

• MRCPCH or equivalent, MBBS or equivalent.
• Knowledge of UK hospital systems.
• Competence in community paediatrics.
• Extensive community paediatric experience.

• Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors.
• Knowledge of NHS management and structure.
• Evidence of management training.
• Experience in CPD and evidence‑based practice.

Desirable

• Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) or equivalent.
• Community Paediatrics Portfolio Pathway (formally CESR).
• On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT within 6 months.
• Broader research, training, and subspecialty service experience.
• Knowledge of risk management.
• Research degree or publications.
