Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mortgage underwriting or a similar role.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (A-C grades) required.
  • Strong ability to summarise complex information and make risk-based recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Making informed lending decisions by reviewing valuation reports, flood risks, credit risks, and other underwriting factors.
  • Handling post-valuation queries and requests for additional information.
  • Responding to property acceptability questions in line with our Lending Policy.
  • Sharing best practices and helping improve processes within the team.
  • Building strong relationships with operational teams, intermediaries, valuers, and legal representatives.
  • Supporting projects that enhance our Lifetime Mortgage procedures and policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with AML, Financial Crime, and KYC policies.
Skills and Experience
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (A–C grades minimum).
  • Proven experience in mortgage underwriting or a similar role.
  • Confidence in making sound lending decisions within agreed risk appetite.
  • Strong ability to summarise complex information and make risk-based recommendations.
  • Great communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • A willingness to mentor and share knowledge with others.
  • Ability to communicate with third parties on the phone and via e‑mail.
