A leading university in London is seeking Lecturers in Economics to contribute to teaching and administration across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The Chair of Political Economy at UCL was created in 1827 in memory of David Ricardo, thus establishing the first Department of Economics in England. The department of Economics has an outstanding international reputation in key areas of current research. It is the only department of economics in the UK to have received the outstanding grade-point average of 3.78 (out of 4) in the 2014 REF with 79% of all indicators of output rated at the highest 4* level. According to the grade point average (GPA) on the overall score, the REF 2014 has ranked the Department of Economics at UCL as:
It is an extraordinarily positive outcome which documents the Department’s outstanding quality in Research. It is the fruit of many years hard work aimed at producing a world leading Department excelling in producing frontier-shifting and policy relevant research. The department offers a number of undergraduate degree programmes, a vigorous undergraduate affiliate student programme, Masters programmes in Economics and Finance and a structured MPhil/PhD programme. The Department of Economics at UCL is a medium-sized department by UK standards with a regular academic staff of 50, but it is supplemented with full-time research staff and part-time teaching fellows plus an active programme of academic visitors. There are currently over 1000 undergraduates and more than 150 graduate students studying in the department. We wish to appoint Lecturers in Economics to contribute to teaching and administration on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Department. The Lecturers will be expected to teach at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level – either supporting existing modules within the department and/or by developing new options. We welcome applications from high-quality candidates with research and teaching interests in areas consistent with the profile across the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake research of the highest international standards within his or her own specialist field, which will contribute to the research standing and culture of the department.
