Job Summary
The Key Account Manager (KAM) will be responsible for managing a portfolio of high-profile, high-value clients, with a total portfolio value of up to £5 million. The KAM will primarily engage with high-level procurement and contract teams, focusing on high future revenue and profit potential, and significant cross-regional account activities. The KAM will drive data-driven decision-making, ensure meticulous record-keeping, and act as business consultants and industry experts, providing valuable insights and guidance to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Account Management: Full ownership of a portfolio up to £5 million, including high-profile clients, including overseeing a portfolio of regional accounts led by Regional Account Managers (RAMs).
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive account strategies and improvement plans. Create detailed action plans highlighting key actions, owners, and delivery dates as agreed during monthly review meetings with the client.
- Conflict Resolution: Conduct escalation meetings and resolve major client conflicts, including escalations required from wider portfolio of Regional and Local Accounts.
- Stakeholder and Partnership Management: Manage relationships with senior stakeholders and report to the Client Services Director. Identify and mature partnership opportunities to grow the scope of work and improve customer loyalty.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilise data to inform decisions and strategies.
- Reporting and Presentations: Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management and report to the Client Services Director on account performance and strategic initiatives.
- Contract Management: Secure renewals, negotiate pricing, and manage contracts end-to-end.
- Consultative Role: Act as a business consultant and industry expert, providing insights and guidance to clients.
- Growth and Retention: Focus on continuous improvement opportunities to ensure client retention and renewal.
- Account Documentation: Capture high-level details regarding the account, including schedules, contract services, KPIs, existing client challenges, and contractual terms.
- Meeting Management: Attend and document meetings, keeping detailed records of discussions and decisions.
- Line Management: Oversee and manage the performance and development of Regional Account Managers (RAMs).

- Proven experience in key account management, preferably within high-value sectors.
- Strong understanding of procurement and contract management.
- Excellent strategic planning and execution skills.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to social value and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in data analysis and decision-making.
- Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to coach and mentor junior account managers.
