Job Description

Our In‑Service Support team is responsible for providing back‑office engineering support to our end users of our products enabling them to achieve mission success, 24/7/365, anywhere in the world. You will be joining a team of highly trained engineers whose decades of experience spans the breadth of the Defence sector and all phases of the product life cycle. The team supports a customer base that is distributed across the globe, from the UK to the USA, Australia, Canada, India, Denmark, Norway, and many other countries.

This is an opportunity for an engineering technician to grow their career within a progressive, dynamic environment with exposure to ground‑breaking technologies and systems, including Electro‑Optic and Data Distributions systems. Assisting support elements of different programmes, work with project team to ensure that our products are supported. We will challenge and support you in equal measure to nurture you as an engineer. We will give you the chance to utilise and build your skills across defence support, customer relations, technical investigations, diagnostics, repair, tests, and trials on cutting‑edge equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting the delivery of our In‑Service support obligations, working closely with the project engineering team.
  • Act as a lab manager ensuring equipment laboratories cleanliness is kept to a high standard.
  • Carrying regular maintenance on equipment to ensure it is always functional in line with contract obligations.
  • Investigate and rectify any emerging defects with equipment.
  • Carry out installation of new equipment and LRUs when required.
  • Assisting with any survey and repairs of LRUs, where required, and testing within parent equipment.
  • Carrying out integration testing of new equipment assisting the project’s design and software engineers.
  • Working closely with the rest of the engineering team to develop solutions that are technically and commercially acceptable.
  • Control and dispatch of project equipment when required.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of test equipment and repair where applicable.
  • Support the field engineering team by collating test equipment and spares required for site visits.
  • Managing and monitoring system performance, conducting root cause analysis of faults.
  • Assisting with the implementation of programmes of inspection and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensuring that customer equipment remains safe and suitable for continued service.
  • Highlighting resource conflicts or constraints to engineering management.
  • Instilling Engineering best practices and processes to enhance engineering excellence and promote continuous improvement.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • A HNC or higher in Engineering, or related discipline. A suitable level of experience as an engineering technician would be considered if no formal qualifications are available. An electrically biased engineer is preferable.
  • Experience in Defence engineering and/or as an engineering technician maintaining complex systems.
  • The ability to be on site in Ultra Maritime’s Loudwater office at least 3 days a week to fulfil their role.
  • Strong hands‑on technical ability and be able to demonstrate defect investigation and rectification skills.
  • Multiple examples of times when you have worked under tight time constraints, in challenging contexts.
  • A background working with maritime equipment would be a bonus.

  • Hold or be capable of achieving Security Clearance (SC) or higher with no caveats.
