Highways Lighting Operative

Enerveo is one of the largest contracting businesses in the UK, offering a broad scope of services including mechanical, electrical, high voltage, electrical vehicle (EV) infrastructure installation, test and inspection services, as well as street lighting.

Job Title: Highways Lighting Operative

Base Location: Newcastle

Salary: From £24,336 – £27,011 + Time Incentive Management (TIM) Bonus Scheme + overtime available.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

What will I be doing in this role?
  • Inspection, maintenance, and repair of highway lighting systems such as streetlights, traffic signs and other street furniture.
  • Fix any faulty equipment quickly to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of lighting infrastructure to enhance visibility and road safety for drivers and pedestrians.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing lamps, cleaning fixtures, and repairing damaged or malfunctioning lighting components.
  • Respond promptly to reported lighting failures or outages and troubleshoot problems to determine the cause of the issue.
  • Carry out repairs and replacements of electrical components, including wiring, switches, ballasts, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow and adhering to established safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and equipment inventory.
  • Operate specialised equipment such as MEWPs and electrical testing devices to access and assess lighting fixtures located at elevated heights.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.
What do I need to be successful in the role?
  • Previous experience working in the electrical/construction industry.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and efficient troubleshooting of electrical issues.
  • Ability to use a handheld tablet to receive jobs and log repair reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights, using appropriate safety equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Nice to have
  • IPAF/PASMA working at heights training.
  • Knowledge of Work within 18th Edition regulations.
  • City and Guilds 2391 qualification.
  • Completion of G39 Electrical Safety training course.
