Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor

Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor for its Power Transmission and Distribution team. The role will be based across two Overhead Line upgrade projects in Dundee, Scotland.

The HSW Advisor will support the project team to drive HSW performance and help achieve our Zero Harm objectives.

What you'll be doing
  • Fully understand and support delivery of the UK HSW Strategy.
  • Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the BU Zero Harm Action Plan and Sustainability Action Plan at business and/or project level.
  • Support the delivery of the HSW Key Performance Indicators at project and business level.
  • Support work‑winning teams with quality & innovative HSW responses for bids, proposals and PQQs.
  • Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near‑miss events in accordance with company standards.
  • In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk‑based Service Level Agreement with each project, kept under quarterly review.
  • Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix.
  • Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned HSW inspections, reviewing project performance against regulatory frameworks and system requirements.
  • Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management to ensure appropriate risks and opportunities are identified and implemented.
Who we're looking for
  • Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification). Candidates working towards the qualification with on‑site experience may be considered.
  • Working toward or holding Chartered Membership of IOSH.
  • Ability to influence and promote a positive HSW culture.
  • Clean UK driving licence.
  • Competence in incident investigation.
  • Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
  • Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&E topics.
  • Ability to undertake project planning and project management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and professional development.
  • Broad experience of complex construction and civil projects (or equivalent sector).
  • Ability to engage and converse at all levels.
