Key Responsibilities & Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional teacher and academic leader with a degree in Physics or a closely related discipline (e.g., Engineering), holding QTS, and possessing a proven track record of successful departmental or key stage leadership within Physics.

As Head of Physics, you will be expected to:

  • Strategic Vision: Develop and implement an ambitious vision for Physics, overseeing curriculum design and specialist delivery from Key Stage 3 through to A-Level and extension programmes.
  • Curriculum & Attainment: Ensure the curriculum is rigorous and engaging, using data effectively to drive student progress and achieve outstanding outcomes in Physics at all levels.
  • Practical & Technical Leadership: Manage and oversee all Physics laboratory equipment, resources, and demonstrations, ensuring high safety standards and promoting inquiry-based practical work.
  • Team Development: Mentor and support the specialist Physics teachers within the wider Science team, fostering pedagogical excellence and a passion for the subject.
  • Wider Contribution: Promote Physics and engineering careers across the school, leading co-curricular activities like Robotics or STEM clubs.
