Head of Events – Meeting & Events Spaces

Monday to Friday – Kings Cross

We are now дали looking for a passionate and experienced Sales & Events Manager for The Derby.

The Derby is a very well‑known meeting and events space in the industry to be one the most versatile locations for all types of encounters. The venue is made of 6 modern meeting rooms, a large events space called studio one and a rooftop terrace – hosting a wide range of events; from large corporate meetings, from receptions (100 people) to private encounters (4 people).

The Head of Events will have a background in either a 4‑ or 5‑star Hotel, Conference/Events operation, or within a corporate establishment and will be a natural leader with the ability to drive the sales department and achieve set targets throughout the business.

The ideal candidate will have a strong & bubbly personality, will enjoy dealing with a mix of clientele, from corporate and non, will have a hands‑on approach to the business, and will be experienced in managing a small events team.

We are looking for a very well‑organized individual with a strategic mindset, strong business and financial acumen, and a solid client portfolio.

The Head of Events will be directly responsible for The Derby business development, cross‑pollinating and collaborating with Hotels’ operations. They will be able to deliver exceptional customer service and will be experienced in reactively converting a high number of inquiries, organising functions to perfection, managing the events team, and leasing with other departments guaranteeing outstanding experiences.

We are looking for a professional individual with at least 3 years’ experience with events operations, reactive and proactive sales, who has a proven track record of high conversion and who can communicate on all levels. The Sales and Event Manager will be ideally experienced with Guestline/Rezlynx but not a must to be considered for the role.

Reporting to the company Director of Operations, the Head of Events will:

  • Work alongside Events Manager in managing and converting events enquiries
  • Conduct reactive sales: communicating with clients over the phone, via emails, arranging viewings, and negotiating pricing
  • Conduct client site visits alongside the team
  • Conduct proactive sales calls, and meetings, and participate at networking events whenever convenient
  • Managing the workload with the Events Manager
  • Maintain and resource new corporate business, establishing a strong relationship with all clients, new and existing
  • Prepare weekly sales reports, activate strategies on compset, and analyse departmental performance
  • Be a team player with a proactive and mentoring attitude
  • Use the company PMS, Guestline, to proceed with tracking,checkbox, and payments
  • Ensure all function rooms are clean and set up correctly according to the event requirements
  • Brief & train the events team regarding menus, functions, and safety procedures (a Health and Safety certificate is essential_hash)
  • Check all the storage areas are clean and tidy
  • Maintain excellent communication within all departments
  • Run the department proactively and independently

  • Be able to work under pressure with others calmly, courteously, and methodically
  • Have an excellent command of English, both verbally and written
  • Experienced with corporate clientele

The role requires someone with superb organisation and communication skills and in-depth events know-how. It is essential to ensure all the departments are adequately briefed and always trained.
