Gypsy Roma and Traveller Co-ordinator

Employment type: Full Time, Fixed Term - 18 months

Location: Bristol City Council, Bristol, England, United Kingdom

This is an exciting opportunity to be the lead professional responsible for driving the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller (GRT) Service forward through cross‑directorate and inter‑agency partnerships with relevant teams, services and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development, maintenance and management of a multi‑agency service with cross‑directorate and multi‑agency priorities.
  • Develop and implement city‑wide policies, including elements of the forthcoming Vehicle Dweller policy.
  • Deputise for senior leadership on behalf of Bristol City Council.
  • Monitor and evaluate core GRT service (commissioned) contracts, service level agreements (SLA) and community‑based projects.
  • Ensure all commissioned services and projects involve community consultation to be culturally sensitive, relevant and accessible to Bristol’s GRT population.
  • Deliver bespoke cultural awareness training to organisations/professionals supporting GRT families (including elected members, BCC staff, schools and partner agencies).
  • Improve housing outcomes, prevent homelessness and promote positive community engagement with encampments.

Additional requirements: experienced supervisor able to handle multiple projects and staff, working at speed with an empathic approach to working alongside traveling communities and residents.
